Venue Sales and Events Planner
Where you live: Bounds Green in North London. It’s a fantastic community with a great monthly market selling amazing local produce.
Who you live with: I live with my boyfriend; Owen, rather harmoniously so far!
How long you have been at BMA House: I have been at BMA House for six months now and I have settled in great. I work with a brilliant team and have made some great friends. I have learnt so much already and am enjoying learning more and more as time progresses.
I get up at: For a usual day, I am up anywhere between 6.30 and 7am (depending on if I need to encounter the mission of washing my hair). I never have time for a coffee or breakfast, so I mostly skip breakfast and go straight for a black coffee when I get into the office.
I’m responsible for: Sales and planning for events along with the other four ladies. The best part is that I and the rest of the team take our clients from beginning to end of their event journey.
I got the job: I had been working for another venue in West London for two years in a similar role but more operational and towards the catering-side of events. I wanted to branch out into a bigger venue and be more involved in sales, and it just so happened BMA House were looking to expand their team of fabulous planners, and the rest is history!
My typical day: It’s so varied every single day! It mostly consists of new enquiries, following up with enquiries in progress and planning events with confirmed clients.
My most memorable work moment: There have been many memorable moments in my event life. However, one of my favourite events I ever worked on had a Greatest Showman theme (I’m obsessed) and there were circus performers, sweet stands and even a real trapeze performance inspired by the ‘Rewrite the Stars’ routine, it was magical!
The worst part of my job: I love my job and being in the events industry (it’s like one massive family), however it can be taxing and stressful at times, so you just have to keep calm, carry on and have a big glass of wine!
The best part of my job: The most rewarding part is seeing the event you and your client have planned together come to life, and of course if you do a good job, the lovely thank you’s afterwards are a wonderful perk.
My desk: Often quite cluttered, but I like to think of it as organised chaos! You can tell a lot about me from the ‘may or may not contain gin’ mug and the ‘I make prosecco disappear…what’s your superpower?’ coaster underneath!
My top tip for planning any event: Stay organised. Keep a checklist of what you need to do for the event and who with. If you are using suppliers, get them booked in as soon as you can! Lastly, take advice from your planner, we do generally know what we are doing!
After work: Depends on the day. During the week it’s often cook dinner, pop to the gym then flop onto the sofa and watch a good movie. Alternatively, it’s a pub beer garden with an ice-cold pint or a glass of vino.
Best meal ever eaten: A 2 Michelin starred 7 course tasting menu at Helene Darroze at the Connaught… I kid you not. It was some of the most beautiful, innovative food I have ever eaten, enjoyed with plenty of champers as I had just graduated from university!
Bloomsbury top tip: The area is more vast than you think! It is filled with fantastic pubs and bars, my favourite local being ‘Mabel’s’. If you are looking for a great place to get pizza, tucked away is ‘Pizza Sophia’ and ‘Caminos’ near King’s Cross Station does some of the best tapas I have ever eaten.
